Data for this shapefile was sourced from stratigraphic well logs for public wells that have been created by geologists, and from drilling logs from domestic water well construction records. Depth to the bottom of the Ozark Aquifer Confining Unit was subtracted from the surface elevation to calculate the confining unit bottom elevation for each location. The confining bottom surface elevation was interpolated using the natural neighbor algorithm with an output cell size of 10 meters. Interpolation values were subtracted from National Elevation Dataset (NED) 10m surface elevation to create a raster surface representing the bottom of the confining unit in 10 meter resolution. Using the greatest values within each ¼-section to account for changes in elevation, raster values were manually evaluated to determine the depth to the bottom of the confining unit. Minimum casing depths for wells that penetrate the lower aquifer were determined by adding ten feet to the depth of the confining unit base. An additional twenty feet was added to lower aquifer casing depth values to include the upper twenty feet of the Cotter Dolomite (due to the low hydraulic conductivity value for the upper Cotter Formation).
